Amazon Echo Dot 3 Layout, design and features …
The first thing that stands out about the new generation is the much rounder shape and the fabric cover. In our eyes, this makes the Echo Dot much more valuable than its predecessors. By the way, you can order the fabric cover in 3 colors; we chose anthracite. As with the predecessor, 4 buttons are used in addition to the voice input, which can be used to control the volume, mute the microphone and call up a voice input as well as perform the Amazon Echo Dot 3 reset.
Apart from the serial number, there is not much to discover on the back. The rubberized underside is a positive feature. Although it immediately attracts dust after unpacking, it ensures that the Echo Dot stands firmly on almost all surfaces.
The upper side is made of smooth plastic and is much easier to clean. You can also see the four built-in microphones here if you look closely. There were still seven in the Echo Dot 2.
One last noticeable change in the Echo Dot 3 concerns the weight, as it weighs 300g, almost twice as much as the Echo Dot 2. One of the main advantages should be the resulting better sound. Since the speaker is just as big as the predecessor’s with 41mm, the sound body should be much better developed. We’ll find out more about this in Practical testing.
