Amazon Echo Dot 3 Review

Practical testing…

After the previously described Amazon Echo Dot 3 installation, you can of course make fine adjustments to the Echo Dot and all other Amazon devices via the Alexa app. Here you can see a list with all device settings.

The activation password can also be changed here. The choices are Alexa, Computer, Amazon & Echo. The Amazon Alexa app is also a full Echo, and the hardware (microphone and speaker) is the smartphone in this case.

But now it is time to put the smartphone down and play Jean Luc Picard. After putting on a pot of Earl Grey, we ask our “computer” to remind us of the tea bag in 4 minutes. Afterwards we ask if she can play us something by Queen. Quasi without a second to think, we get a friendly answer and Freddie Mercury sounds from the Echo Dot 3. After another 4 minutes, the Echo Dot interrupts the music interlude and reminds us of the tea bag. The first test would thus already be passed 😀

The sound quality of the Echo Dot 3 is excellent considering its size! The trebles are almost perfect and even the mids and basses can convince up to a certain volume. This assessment is of course purely subjective, with a 1000 euro expensive high-end speaker system, you should not compare the Echo Dot 3 of course. However, to crown the whole thing, there is the possibility to assemble several Echos into so-called multi-room speakers. In this way, you can also evenly fill larger rooms with sound and/or integrate your existing stereo system.

In our test, we simply placed 4 Echo Dots and an Echo Input in several groups. The speaker groups can be named freely. If you want to use them, you just have to say “Alexa, play music on the group Living Room” and you will hear the music from the assigned Echos. Of course, the speaker groups are configured via the Alexa app.

Finally, it should be mentioned that the Echo Dot 3 can be plugged in without any problems, and the settings remain unchanged. Thus, you can even take the small voice assistant into the garden, as long as Wi-Fi and power are available. This is also the only point of criticism that we noticed: The power connection. Even though it’s only a power port, the micro-USB port of the old Echo Dot was much more advantageous, since you could also use it with a USB power bank and a hotspot, for example. This option is omitted in the current generation!

We also recommend labeling the Echo Dots, if you have more than one. In any case, we did not find any other way to distinguish several Echo Dots from each other.

Now we come to our Amazon Echo Dot 3 test result on Funkyhome.de.
